About Nate

nate gardner doesn’t like speaking about himself in the third person, and I’m not cool enough to have someone else write this for me.
I’m an artist and educator. I like to make movies about outcasts, violence, dreams, alien places, depression and loneliness, and realities that defy rationality. My work is all over the place, focused on moving image and sound, but mixing in acting, dance, performance art, writing, prop-making and special effects, and interactive installation.
I grew up in small mountain towns in the Rockies and Appalachians, where I could run around and imagine what wasn't. I’ve performed Shakespeare at Lincoln Center, studied ethnography and gamelan in Indonesia, staged an interactive nightmare in an abandoned house, assisted indigenous artists in Botswana to animate their paintings, swum in the Arctic at a winter arts residency in Iceland, and design sounds for artists I admire.
I teach directing and film/digital production (Emerson College, Endicott College), and like to cook.

Say hi!

I actually read all my emails. Pinky-promise.
